Hypertension is a chronic condition in which blood pressure is elevated. Although hypertension is a common condition, hospitalizations for complications of hypertension are uncommon. Admission rates have been linked to issues with access to care, and it is suggested that admission rates for hypertension can be reduced with proper outpatient care.
